Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation for Sleep Apnea (Inspire & Genio)
Hypoglossal nerve stimulation is an FDA-approved therapy for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients who are unable to tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). A small device is implanted that delivers gentle stimulation to the hypoglossal nerve during sleep, keeping the airway open and reducing apneic events.
The Inspire system uses a fully implanted pulse generator activated nightly with a handheld remote. The Genio system delivers stimulation through a small implanted chip without leads or batteries, controlled by a disposable external patch. Both options offer a discreet, CPAP-free alternative for the right candidates.
Our sleep medicine team works closely with ENT surgical partners to evaluate candidacy, coordinate implantation, and provide long-term follow-up to optimize therapy and improve quality of life.
