Dr. Bayasi obtained his MD from Damascus University of Medicine, Syria, in 1988 and completed his internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Michigan. He then completed his residency at Wayne State University with additional training in Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. A faculty member of Michigan State University since 1998, he is a clinical associate professor and a five-time Educator of the Year. He and his wife Luna enjoy spending time with their three children and traveling.

Dr. Aboudan received his MD from Aleppo University Hospital, Syria in 1997. He continued his training at St. Barnabas Hospital (Cornell School of Medicine), completed residency at Long Island Jewish (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), and fellowship training at the University of Missouri. He joined the Ascension Genesys Regional Medical Center Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine Department in 2008 and earned the Faculty Award for Internal Medicine Best Teacher (2014–2015). He also completed courses at Harvard Business School, IBM, and the University of Michigan. Dr. Aboudan and his wife Asma have four children.

Dr. Al-Ali earned his MD from Damascus University, Syria in 1997 and completed residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His subspecialty training includes a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Alabama, and a Sleep Medicine Fellowship at the Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University. He practiced Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Penobscot Respiratory before joining Genesee Lung Associates in 2016. He and his wife Rima enjoy reading and spending time with their four children.

Omar Khorfan, DO, MPH

Dr. Khorfan earned his BS from the University of Michigan (2007), DO from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (2011), and MPH from Michigan State University (2012). He completed residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago and fellowships in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Wayne State University. He received travel grants from the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society and joined Genesee Lung Associates in 2019. He enjoys sports, traveling, and spending time with his wife Leen and their four children.

Dr. Zakri earned her MD from Aleppo University of Medicine, Syria in 2012. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Brandon Regional Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident, and her fellowship in Pulmonology and Critical Care at Ascension St. John Hospital, MI, where she was Chief Fellow and served on Sepsis and Critical Care committees. She has volunteered in Syria and Florida, providing respiratory care to underserved patients. She joined Genesee Lung Associates in 2022 and enjoys photography, traveling, and hiking.

Abi Waqas, MD

Dr. Waqas graduated from King Edward Medical University, Pakistan (2005). He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Ascension Genesys Hospital. He has served as Director of Hospital Medicine, Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, and on critical care, physician wellness, and quality improvement committees. He joined Genesee Lung Associates in 2024. He lives in Grand Blanc with his wife, Dr. Ambreen Sattar, and their two sons, and enjoys traveling, golfing, running, and hiking.

Fahim Khorfan, MD, FCCP

Dr. Khorfan earned his MD from Aleppo University, Syria in 1973. His training includes Makassed General Hospital and the American University of Beirut, residency at Emory University and Johns Hopkins University, and fellowship at the University of Maryland. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and later as Chief of Medicine at Beebe Medical Center in Delaware. Since moving to Michigan in 1994, he has served on numerous committees, including Chairman of the ICU at Genesys (1995–2006), and has been Associate Clinical Professor at Michigan State University since 1995. His research has been published in CHEST and Sleep Medicine. He and his wife Farrah have four children and five grandchildren, and he enjoys avid reading.

Ahmad Hannan, MD

Dr. Hannan graduated from Aleppo Medical School, Syria in 1973, ranking second in his class nationally. He completed his internship at Barberton Citizens Hospital (Ohio), residency at Lutheran Medical Center (Ohio), and fellowship at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He has held leadership positions including Medical Director of Respiratory Care, Chief of Pulmonary Medicine, Vice Chairman of Internal Medicine, and Vice Chief of Staff at Ascension Genesys. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Instructor of the Year Award (four times). Outside of medicine, he enjoys chess, jogging, and swimming. He and his wife Fadia have four children and eight grandchildren.
