Thoracentesis & Chest Tube Placement

Thoracentesis is a bedside procedure that removes excess fluid from the space between the lung and the chest wall (pleural effusion). It provides immediate relief from shortness of breath and offers fluid samples for diagnostic testing to identify the underlying cause.

Chest tube placement is used to drain larger or recurring pleural effusions, treat pneumothorax (collapsed lung), or evacuate blood or pus from the chest cavity. Our physicians perform these procedures using ultrasound guidance to maximize safety and effectiveness.
